June 10 2014 - Gold Coast, Australia

While Apple announced last week at their Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco that they will soon be selling smartlocks, an award-winning Gold Coast company is selling smartlocks in Australia now.

LEAPIN Digital Keys has partnered with fellow Gold Coast company Resonline, and leading smartlock manufacturer, Lockstate, to sell smartlocks to small-to-medium-sized resorts and hotels.

“What makes smartlocks special is that you use your smartphone to unlock and control them”, said Managing Director of LEAPIN Digital Keys, Stephen Dunn. “You can also use your smartphone and smart locks for controlling who accesses your property at specific times, and for better property management.”

With customers’ already in regional Victoria and in Adelaide, including bed and breakfasts, and boarding houses, LEAPIN Digital Keys is hoping Apple will educate the public about the benefits of having smartlocks in properties.

At the WWDC, Apple gave the example of controlling smartlocks (and other home devices such as lights) through Siri, by saying “get ready for bed”; automatically dimming the houselights and locking the doors.

LEAPIN Digital Keys have supercharged a smartlock by interfacing it with Resonline’s Property Management System and Channel Manager (which interfaces to online travel agencies such as Expedia, Wotif and so that guests can book rooms in exactly the same way they do now, and go straight to their room and open the smartlocks on their room doors with their time-sensitive digital key emailed or texted to their smartphone.

“The applications for smart locks are only limited by your imagination”, says Mr Dunn. “Like Apple, we've building smartlock applications for the connected home, but we've also built applications for booking and accessing tennis courts, universities, share-cars, and parcel delivery containers and lockers, and we’re excited that Apple will raise awareness about this exciting new technology”.

About LEAPIN Digital Keys - A finalist in the 2013 The Australian/Shell Innovation Awards, LEAPIN has also won an award for excellence in tourism from the Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards. LEAPIN has graduated from two accelerator programs (one in the USA) and an incubator in an Australian university. LEAPIN was a recipient of a Commercialisation Australia grant in 2012, and is currently working with a number of international lock manufacturers to deliver its smartlock apps.
